You may be aware that the Royal Horticultural Society banned the use of oasis at all its shows several years ago due to the adverse environmental effects of the microplastics. Last year several local shows either banned its use or encouraged exhibitors to look at alternatives. The Committee has considered this issue and decided that while we would not prohibit the use of oasis, we would encourage exhibitors to look at other options.
The RHS has produced a guide to other options such as wire mesh, pin frogs and supports made from natural materials. We also have a video from the National Dahlia Society showing how to exhibit dahlias supported by newspaper.
