History of the Kimble & Ellesborough Horticultural Society
KEHS has its roots in the mid-nineteenth century when the Velvet Lawn Association was set up. Over time, with some stops and starts, it became the Kimble and Ellesborough Horticultural Society and the thriving society that it is today.
This covers the period from the formation of the Velvet Lawn Cottage Garden Society in the mid 19th century to the Society's evolution into the Kimble and Ellesborough Horticultural Society at the end of 20th century.
In 1926 the Velvet Lawn Association become the Kimble Horticultural Association. The records of the first Minutes and the Show Schedule cast a fascinating light on the new Association and also on the nature of Society at that time.
